TO AMEND THE NICHOLS AMENDMENT TO THE SCHROEDER AMENDMENT TO H.R. 6030. THE SCHROEDER AMENDMENT PERMITS DIVORCE COURTS TO AWARD FORMER SPOUSES OF ARMED FORCES MEMBERS A PORTION OF ENTITLEMENTS RELATING TO MILITARY RETIREMENT, SURVIVORS BENEFITS, AND HEALTH BENEFITS. THE NICHOLS AMENDMENT TO THE SCHROEDER AMENDMENT PROVIDES ADDITIONAL RESTRICTIONS, INCLUDING A REQUIREMENT THAT THE FORMER SPOUSE MUST HAVE BEEN MARRIED TO THE ARMED FORCES MEMBER FOR AT LEAST TEN YEARS. THIS AMENDMENT ALSO PROVIDES FOR TERMINATION OF THE PAYMENTS IF THE FORMER SPOUSE REMARRIES BEFORE AGE 60. THE HANCE AMENDMENT REAFFIRMS STATE COMMUNITY PROPERTY LAWS. (MOTION PASSED)
